NESTS AND ROOTS
2023–2024
Kas sa oled püüdnud kunagi kogeda, kuidas linnud pesaõõnsusest maailma näevad? Kas oled tahtnud mõnikord pugeda maailma kära eest puu otsa raamatut lugema? Või koopasse niiskust ja üksindust sisse hingama? Tahaksid proovida, putukana taimede vahel liikuda?
"Pesad ja juured" Ähijärve ääres, Karula rahvuspargis, on teiste liikide pesadest ja laiemas mõttes elupaikadest inspireeritud kogemuslikud väliinstallatsioonid. Need loovad kokkupuutepunkte inimeste ja mitteinimeste kodude ja tajude vahel. Teiste mõistmine on eluliselt vajalik paljuliigilise koosluse hoidmiseks, aga selle rikkuse mõistmine rikastab ka meie elu. Selleks, et olla inimene, püüa olla ka sipelgas, ämblik ja kurg. Alal on 7 pesa, mis ootavad aktiivset avastamist: Putukate ala, Sipelgapesa, Koha kodu, Koobas, Võrgupuu, Lindude ühiselamu, Pesa. Aga märka retkel ka Ähijärve loodusrikkust.
Pesad on loodud koos kohaliku kogukonnaga ja Tartu Rahvusvahelise maja kogukonnaga projekti "Maailma maaliin" raames, mis on osa Euroopa kultuuripealinn Tartu 2024 põhiprogrammist. Ehitasid Agu Troll ja Mihkel Säre ja koosloome töötubades, mida vedasid: Margus Rebane, Mihkel Säre, Marta Konovalov, Jane Remm, Lilian Freiberg, Liisa Kallam.
Have you ever wondered how birds see the world from the nest? Have you ever wanted to escape from the noise of the rest to read a book in a tree house? Or to breathe in the humidity and solitude of a cave? Would you like to try to move between plants as an insect?
"Nests and roots" by Lake Ähijärvi, in the Karula National Park, consists of experiential outdoor installations inspired by nests of other species and habitats in a broader sense. They connect between human and non-human homes and perceptions. Understanding the non-human others is vital to maintain the biodiverse community, but unnderstanding the complexity also enriches our lives. In order to be a human, try to be an ant, a spider and a stork. There are 7 nests which awaiting to be actively explored: Insect area, Ant nest, Zander's home, Cave, Net tree, Bird dormitory, Nest. On the trip, notice also the diverse nature of Ähijärv.
The nests have been made in co-creation with the local community and the community of the International House of Tartu as part of the project "Maailma maaliin", which is part of the main program of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024. The installatsions are built by Agu Troll and Mihkel Säre and in the co-creational workshops led by: Margus Rebane, Mihkel Säre, Marta Konovalov, Jane Remm, Lilian Freiberg, Liisa Kallam.
